I've tried other soaps but none work nearly as well in combination with the filter. So its a sham that these kits are still being sold.
However, Proctor & Gamble has discontinued the soap and filters. I've owned and used this to wash my cars since it came to market.
I've inquired with P&G who responded that "products are usually discontinued because of lack of demand." And they indicated they'd no longer be supporting this product. While you can still find Kits at discounted prices compared to what they used to sell for, be forewarned, you'll find a product that works great but you'll get just two, maybe three car washes with the soap in the kit.
The combination of soap and filter is essential to the performance of this system. P&G's response to me was that they thought it was ok let retailers sell kits without a continuing supply of essential supplies.
And even if one found a soap that worked, it would be academic because the filters are also discountined

But better than that it is the greatest tool for cleaning windows outside. I have twelve windows and it takes maybe an hour to do all the outside.

All you need is a broom to remove cobwebs, wet down with Mr. Clean Auto, Soap with Mr.
Clean spot remover. Fabulous.
I have another one, but bought this to get the extra stuff, and also (at the time) couldn't find the shampoo.Takes some work to wash the car, but the spot-free is worth it.We lost our self car wash with a spot free rinse, and I bought this. Have been very happy with it, except not every store carries the filters and shampoo.Dial is a little hard to turn, and you have to remember which is which.
I have only used this item once and it seemed to work pretty good. If you decide to try to dry some of the car anyway, makes it pretty easy.
The product generally works as advertised but. If you do not dry the car after the special filtered rinse, you will still get some water spotting. Granted that is less than if you just hosed it off, but still some spotting. I would recommend that for best results, you let the car stand for 5 minutes after the final filtered rinse and them look for residual water on the surface and dry it off with either a chamois or microfiber cloth.
